Always be a first-rate version of yourself

Wednesday May 11, 2022
Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.
This encourages a focus on achieving a clear sense of your own identity. It is an important part of mental toughness in that you create real clarity for yourself and those around you, about who you are and what you stand for. This self-awareness helps you develop some principles and boundaries that help you take control of your own destiny.
Being a first-rate version of yourself builds your resilience. It helps you respond appropriately when you encounter situations that you are uncomfortable with. It provides you with an anchor when you feel lost or overwhelmed.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Many would argue that there is an abundance of other great things one can do with their life . In my opinion being yourself is ones greatest accomplishment because not being yourself can lead to unhappiness and anxiety, It gives other people a better understanding of who you are, and it makes it easier to make friends with people you will actually enjoy being around.

“The bad news is time flies…The good news is you're the pilot” - Michael Altshuler
There are very few constants in our lives and time is one of them. We cannot stop it, control it or harness it. We can capture moments in time by archiving our thoughts with the written word, photos and video – we can reflect on those times and reminisce, but the reality is when that time passes it’s gone.
The ‘good news is’ that you are indeed the pilot – so take control of your life, your decisions – pick up the phone, make a call and tell a friend, client or love one – how important they are to you! - Cliff Quicksell

If you fail to prepare you are preparing to fail.

Today's quote comes to you from Benjamin Franklin:
Be well prepared and brief in your remarks. There is positively no excuse for wasting another’s time by going to the meeting unprepared and rambling helplessly in your talk. Remember, if you fail to prepare you are preparing to fail.

You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.

Today's quote comes to you from Maya Angelou.
“You can’t use up creativity,” she stresses. “The more you use, the more you have. It is our shame and our loss when we discourage people from being creative. We set apart those people who should not be set apart, people whom we assume don’t have a so-called artistic temperament, and that is stupid.
“Too often creativity is smothered rather than nurtured. There has to be a climate in which new ways of thinking, perceiving, questioning are encouraged. People also have to feel they are needed.”

Never trouble another for what you can do yourself.
In his letter to Thomas Jefferson Smith in 1825, Thomas Jefferson included the following two items in his Decalogue of Canons for Observation in Practical Life:
“Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”
“Never trouble another for what you can do yourself.”
Just as with our friend Confucius, TJ’s wisdom applies to your business and your everyday life.

Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without - Gautama Buddha
Gautama Buddha was an ascetic and spiritual teacher of ancient India who lived during the latter half of the first millennium BCE.
He was the founder of Buddhism and is revered by Buddhists as an Enlightened being whose teachings sought a path to freedom from ignorance, craving, rebirth and suffering.
So how does one go about finding peace within if they do not have peace within? I think it lies within the ability to connect with past peaceful experiences or in creating new ones.

Today’s quote comes to you from Oscar Wilde
The well bred contradict other people. The wise contradict themselves.
Oscar Wilde came from a prominent family. While studying at Oxford in the 1870s, he gained notice as a scholar, poseur, wit, and poet and for his devotion to the Aesthetic movement, which held that art should exist for its beauty alone. Wilde later established himself in London's social and artistic circles.
